To My Family While I Am At College

I love you, and I haven't forgotten about you

To My Family While I Am At College
Madison Hirsch

To my family while I am away at college:

First of all I want to let you all know that classes are going good, and I would tell you all if they were not. Also, I wanted to let you all know that I am getting more involved. The weather has been okay, it has not been my favorite time of the year, but it is not too hot or too cold so that is fine. And yes I saw that person’s post on Facebook the other day, and I could not believe they posted that either.

I love you all very very much, and I am so so thankful that I get to call you my family. Living far away at school makes it really hard to keep up to date when you all. I really wish that I had all the time in the world to do everything I want to do at school and to talk to you guys all the time.

Remember when I told you guys that this semester was going to be one of my busiest semesters yet? Well, it is already starting up. I have been busier than ever, and busy could be a good thing, But now thinking about it and being busy means that I do not get to talk to you all as much as I would like it. Now, I am not making up an excuse because I do not think that there is really any excuse for not talking to your family, but I am really busy.

I do really miss you guys, like a lot. I miss the funny weird times that would just randomly start up. I also really miss the family trips that we would take. But one thing that I miss the most is our talks, and family game night (even though we did not get to do that much this past summer).

I want to talk to you all literally all the time. I want you to know what is going on in my life, and how my classes are going. I want to rant to you about how stressed I am, and I want advice on how to deal with my stress. I want to know what is going on back home. I want to know all the family drama, and how everyone is doing in their sports and at school. I want to be involved in your lives and I want you all to be involved in my life.

One thing that I want you all to know is that it is okay for you all to call me first. I may not answer at first but I will call you back when I get some free time. Or please text me out of the blue and just fill me in on the details of what is going on back home, I would really like that. I swear you are not annoying me when you do that. And I promise to start trying harder to talk to you guys more. I am working on making time for my family in my busy schedule while I am here at school.

I love you all so much it is hard to explain!

With Love,

Your college student

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
