Ah, Family Weekend; The weekend I had been both looking forward to and dreading at the same time. As a freshman I was really looking forward to seeing my mom, my dad, and my younger sister. I had been gone for a month already; granted it felt like a week, this was the longest I had ever gone without seeing my family. It wasn't until a few hours after they arrived that I realized how much I had been dreading it as well. I'm not really sure how to put the rollercoaster of emotions that came along with family weekend into words so I'm going to use pictures instead. I am sure some of you experienced the same process, let's see if I'm close.
1. Pure, Unadulterated, Joy
The moment your mom texts you saying "We're almost there (insert a dozen emojis)"
2. The excitement of seeing them in person
Very movie esque, let me run into your arms, sort of thing.
3. Tourguide
Here's where you get to show off all you know already.
4. They ask to meet your friends
This is a little nerve-racking because you've only known your friends for a month and it's all still very new. Your parents can be embarrassing so this could go terribly wrong. You introduce them to your new people and things could have gone better but they also could have gone a lot worse!
5. Your Family asks you what you want to do and you realize you have nothing planned.
This is where the dread starts to kick in because all you really want to do is take a nap, but you also have to read that book for your inquiry class, and now you have to entertain too!
6. Your parents start to point out every little thing you do that they don't like.
No, my bed's not made and no I won't make it. Yes, I do still bite my nails that hasn't changed. I'm not sure when I am going to get a job; yes I know I don't have much money.
7. They take you to Target
At this point your dreading it less because, A. They are buying you stuff, and B. Lets be honest, who doesn't like Target.
8. They pack up the car to leave
It's at this moment that you remember how much you love, appreciate, and care about all of them and you get sad that they have to leave already.
9. You remember all the stuff you have to get done and decide to be productive.
That doesn't happen and you end up napping for most of the day.
