I love weddings, everything about them. I could spend hours looking at wedding boards on Pinterest and watching "Say Yes to the Dress." Although I am enamored by designs and details put forth towards a wedding, I have learned over the years that those details are a very small part of the day. For it is not about the wedding, it is about the marriage.
There are few events more special than witnessing two people getting married. A day full of such beautiful moments, and we get to see a couple be the happiest they have ever been. It could be a perfect stranger and I would still feel overwhelming joy for them — love is the best.
However, perhaps the best weddings to attend are those of our family members. We have seen our family members grow from a young age, so to see them tie the knot is just another special milestone we get to share with them. We only ever want the best for our family, and when these special moments, you better believe that we will be there to celebrate them.
Part of what makes these events so special is the fact that we are surrounded by our family to simply celebrate joy. There are few things more blissful than seeing those we only get to see a few times a year and picking up right where we left off. Partaking in the weird family traditions that only we understand and seeing the looks on everyone’s faces. Family weddings are two families coming together to share this special day. Where everyone is a bad dancer but no one cares. Because what matters is that we are together.
Family weddings remind us how special it is to be surrounded by the people we love most in celebration of a sacred sacrament. And in the moment that we are celebrating a marriage, we get to welcome a new member into our family. There is nothing better than family.
Here is to my big, crazy, Irish Catholic family of whom I do not get to see nearly enough. The time spent with you all is time that I cherish greatly. I look forward to many more weddings to celebrate with you. You guys are the best.
