There have been a lot of complaints about how things are in this generation, and some of these complaints have more substance than others. One criticism is that with the evolution of technology, families do not spend any quality time together. I wholeheartedly agree. In previous decades, families actually spent time together, getting to know each other and growing closer. Sure, some of that still happens but to the same degree, and when families do hang out everyone is also preoccupied on their phones (myself included). Some of the old family traditions that used to be the norm started to fade away, and they need to make a comeback and become common once more.
Movie Night
Blockbuster may no longer exist, but DVDs are easy to obtain nowadays and there are always the streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu. Movie night is a good way to bond and laugh, or cry together as a family. There is always the option of watching tv series instead of movies as well. Growing up movie night was always one of my favorite things to do.
Family Outings
You don't have to stay cooped up inside the house to spend time together. There are plenty of outdoor options and places to go to get out of the house. There are museums, parks, zoos, nature trails, lakes, beaches, the list goes on. Picnicking, camping, all sorts of things and adventures await out there waiting to be found and experienced.
Starting a Garden
Gardening is a fantastic way to spend time together. Getting down to earth, literally, can be really fun. Everyone will be able to reap the benefits of their work and are learning how to be sustainable. This can especially be beneficial for younger members of the family. And hey, who doesn't like a good excuse to get their hands dirty in something enjoyable.
These are just some of the things that families used to do all the time but that has lost popularity for some reason or another. Families still care about each other but a lot of them have drifting apart more than they used to. Maybe a start to regaining that closeness are is reintroducing some of the old family traditions.
