Family Is Where The Heart Is...And So Is College

We all miss being home, even for the slightest bit.

Family Is Where The Heart Is...And So Is College

Going to college is the easy part. But,coming back home and realizing you have missed a lot in the lives that mean the most to you, is the hard part.

Attending college is one of the greatest decisions some people make, you have wonderful opportunities ahead of you and you even experience things outside your comfort zone. You can basically do whatever you want. Who would not enjoy that? You can party and even sleep-in (though there are consequences to both). The transition from home to college is hard but, if you have not been home for a long time, it could be worse. Not "worse" in a bad way, just "worse" in a good-transitional way.

Here are some things to consider while being home for break:

1. It will feel a little weird at first.

Coming home after being away for a good amount of time is weird to anyone. I remember when I first came home from college it felt weird; It was like I never left. I know it sounds like I contradicted myself there but, I'll explain. It felt the same because everyone was still living their lives, how they did before I left. Even though they missed me and I missed them, it was still remotely the same feeling. It felt different because of how we would all converse to each other. I felt like an adult for once. Being home made me realize I had grown up.

2. Sleep in.

Being home and having a curfew, is a college students nightmare. We are so used to being on our own and going to bed whenever we want, that we do not realize it is probably a bad habit. When your parents say for you to be home at 11:30pm and you are use to being up until 4 am, just remember you are home for a limited amount of time and you should respect their wishes.

3. Spend time with your friends and family. Be on social media less.

You probably want to post as many memories on Snapchat as you can while being home but, you have to remember what is more important. Spending time with your friends and family, especially if you are at college in a different state, is the most important thing to do. Make more memories and take a lot of pictures so you can bring them back with you!

Whatever you do your first time home or maybe even your tenth time home, just make sure you enjoy your time with others, have fun, relax, and spend time on yourself too!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
