It’s Fall! It’s raining colorful leaves and that means… Halloween is right around the corner. If you grew up in the '90s and early ‘2000s Halloween was the ultimate holiday (besides Christmas, of course). It’s time to go trick-or-treating! Fill your pillow cases with candy that you'd be eating for months; a time when people create costumes that are creative and over-the-top that probably will take weeks to prepare. Most importantly, it is time for Halloween movies.
I know that Disney Channel runs a series of Halloween movies starting the first day of October. while I’m a fan of scary movies, I know that some fans of Halloween aren’t actually all that fond of being scared. Many of my peers now have children of their own, making Halloween more of a family affair. So, whether you have a family of your own or you’re just not fond of really scary movies, I’ve compiled the top 2 fairly family friendly films for a fun Halloween.
Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a classic Disney movie. The movie is a traditional Halloween spooky ghost story that turns into a real life adventure for 3 kids who break the spell of the Sanderson Sisters. The story is an alluring one and will have even grown-ups pay close attention. The Sanderson Sisters (played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy), were convicted of witchcraft in Colonial Salem, Massachusetts and put to death hundreds of years ago, are brought back to life. It's up to two teenagers and an 8-year-old to stop the wicked witches from succeeding with their sinister plan. Sure, it's not full of blood and gore, but it was still scary as hell to our child selves — and a lot of fun, to boot.
Casper
Casper is a friendly young ghost who can't seem to help scaring people. Then, one day, two new visitors show up on the doorstep of his haunted house, Whipstaff Manor: Kat Harvey and her eccentric dad, Dr. Harvey, a self-styled ghost therapist. Unfortunately for Dr. Harvey, the Ghostly Trio--Fatso, Stinkie, and Stretch--have their own methods of getting rid of unwanted visitors--and a certifiably twisted sense of humor. Casper is a family film that could easily be loved by all, it shows what it is like for a travelling teenager who gets forced into moving because of family issues. It tackles the idea of trying to fit in be in adults, children or ghosts. I think the whole family can enjoy certain part of this film and it doesn’t resort to immature jokes.
