Family Film Night: Haiku Collection

Seeing Rogue One was a great way to spend time with my family. It was also a great source of inspiration for a few haikus.

A family night

Went with my folks to see it

My uncle came, too

Popcorn in my hand

Adds to the fantastic scene

I gotta get it

King Kong: Skull Island

Tom Hiddleston is in it

Want to see it. NOW!

Johnny Cash cover

Nice fit for Old Wolverine

Want to see Logan

Trailer for Boss Baby

Deplorable. You know why?

Main guy hates puppies

Trailer for Boss Baby

That movie is many things

But it’s not funny

Trailer for Boss Baby

The overall impression:

Not that creative

There’s no title crawl

Like watching a comic book

Crossed with a war flick

The callbacks were nice

Brought dead actors from the grave

Awesome Darth Vader

Very awesome bot

C-3PO except not

Has dry humor

Blind NOT Jedi Knight

No lightsaber required

Whoops a lot of butt

His sidekick’s fun, too

Cracks a joke with a big smirk

Packs a big boomstick

“I deserve credit!”

White general's so wimpy

Never gets his way

This one character

Can’t remember his name now

I call him Arrow.

He was a sniper.

Who had conflicting feelings

He lost everything

He reminds me of

Cellist of Sarejvo

Reminds me of her

Her name is Arrow

A character like that guy

Captain What’s-his-face

She was a sniper

Who had conflicting feelings

She lost everything

Here I am, thinking,

“They are the same character

Different names and sex”

Diego Luna

He plays Arrow in the film

He is kind of cute

Jyn the rebel girl

Her father made the Death Star

She has connections

Quite the risk taker

Wants to steal the Death Star plans

But no one budges

Defective Pilot

Starts off cowardly but then

Becomes awesome, man!

Princess Leia’s eyes

Very Disney-Princess-Y

It’s quite disturbing

Jyn and Arrow love:

They hug, hold hands, and that’s it

I guess that’s enough

Jyn and Arrow love:

Hey! Jyn! Arrow! Guys! Hello?!?

Just kiss already!

Jyn? Arrow? A word?

You’re on a beach together

Just kiss already!

Jyn? Arrow? A word?

Death is minutes away now

Just kiss already!

Ending of Rogue One:

The moral of this story

War is bad. The end.

To quote Patrick Star:

“Everyone died. The end.” (Smiles)

Wow, Star Wars, that’s dark.

Here I am thinking:

“This movie is so awesome

Burning way past cool”

An adhesive flick

Put the two arcs together

Quite successfully

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Nobody deserves to be living in poverty.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
