Falling Asleep to Disney

As I attempt to drift off to sleep a song keeps popping up in my head...

Falling Asleep to Disney

And life is a road that I wanna keep going / Love is a river, I wanna keep flowing / Life is a road, now and forever, wonderful journey / I'll be there when the world stops turning / I'll be there when the storm is through / In the end I wanna be standing / At the beginning with you.

Do those lyrics sound familiar? They should be because they are from the movie Anastasia. I have recently found all of the old Disney movies I watched as a kid either on YouTube or Netflix (this one on Netflix but you can find Lion King or Princess Diaries on YouTube). For example, do you remember watching Hercules as a kid where the women popped off the beautiful Egyptian pots to sing a song about love? Do you remember when Dennis Quaid threw really hard in The Rookie? These movies and so many more are outdated because of technology but still teach the basic lessons at the end of the day.

Here are some of my favorites and how I relate to them/my thoughts and feelings:

  • Remember the Titans: If you can see past each other’s differences, you can achieve greatness. I personally take this movie really hard because I grew up in a town and culture where I could never picture this happening. I will never judge a person based on the color of their skin or religion because I believe every person I run into can only add value to my life in some way, whether it's me learning a tough lesson or learning a new skill.
  • The Rookie: You’re never too old to dream big. I don't believe I'm that old so I can't relate to this one yet but this movie has been one of my favorites for years. I especially love the end scene where he walks out with his wife to find the whole town there cheering him on.
  • Pocahontas: Love is seeing the world from a new perspective. We can learn a lot from people who are not like ourselves. Pocahontas always intrigues me because you learn about the British colonizing America in such a different way but I love the story line and have always found the music to be great. It's one of those movies that always makes you feel good.
  • Mulan: Love is fighting for those who matter most. Our struggles can form us and teach us to be a better person. Every single girl in her childhood picked up her hairbrush and pretended to be Christina Aguilera singing "Reflection" into her mirror. I was definitely one of those girls. Mulan was a powerful heroine which wasn't portrayed a lot back in the 90s.
  • Sleeping Beauty: Love is unexpected. I have learned that love shows up in all different places whether you want it to or not. I think that Sleeping Beauty added to the stigma that you needed to be blonde to be a princess, which I don't agree with because I'm brunette and I think I'm a princess :).
  • The Little Mermaid: Love can help you find your voice again. Be true to yourself. People will love you more because of it. The Little Mermaidis one of the greatest classics and is one of the best examples of a character who wasn't human who is one of the "princesses" and who is also one of the most popular Halloween costumes. It was also the first to have a character who was a ginger.
  • Beauty and the Beast: Love is appreciating people for who they are inside. Never let what negative people think about you affect your life. I believe eliminating what people say about you affect you is very hard to do and many people are good at it, but I don't happen to be one of those people. I take everything people say to heart.
  • Aladdin: Love has no rules. The true worth of a person is who they are, not what they have. People discuss money today like it defines relationships sometimes, which it does as you get older and are trying to find the one, but money has nothing to do with character.
  • Cinderella: Love can catch you by surprise. Never give up on your dreams. When I was a little girl I used to pretend to be Cinderella and waltz around my room in my mom's oversized high heels.

I don't want to keep badgering but there are so many movies I have forgotten about over the years such as Lilo and Stich, Bambi, and Emperor's New Groove. Also, Anastasia gives me nightmares so maybe I should stop watching it.

If you have any other movies that you just want to add, post a comment below!!!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
