Along with fall comes the chilly autumn air, countless pumpkin flavored drinks, and the desire to curl up in bed and watch a fall themed movie. RESIST that urge! Well, maybe watch a few fall movies while wrapped in your favorite blanket, but then get up and go enjoy the perfect weather that has taken over the city. But on the other hand, once fall hits, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym and hide from the beautiful changes happening outside. I want to be outside browsing pumpkin patches or watching the leaves fall. So if you find yourself either stuck at home avoiding the chilly weather, or dreading going to the gym because you want to embrace the refreshing weather, here are some tips to help you get your workout in during the fall:
Go on a hike.
This is the perfect time of year to go on hikes. If running isn’t your thing (it’s definitely not mine) then hikes are a great low-impact alternative. You are still getting a pretty intense work out because you’re probably going to be walking up and down hills. Try jogging for a few minutes. If you’re anything like me, you’ll also get an arm workout from swinging a stick in front of you to avoid spiders (this is truly a lifesaver). Every city has great places to hike and enjoy nature; you just have to find them!
Do a circuit in your living room.
If this slightly chilly weather (or cold weather, if you live up North) isn’t your thing, you can still get that work out in. Put a movie on and do some jumping jacks, mix it up with some punches or butt kicks and of course add in some strength moves. You’ve got yourself the perfect indoor workout without having to pay for a gym or any equipment.
Make it a challenge.
Challenge yourself, your friends, or your social media followers to some sort of fitness task. It could be a squat challenge, a 5K challenge, or something as simple as walking around the block everyday. Whatever it is, make it a group effort. When you have someone to hold you accountable for your workout, you are much more inclined to actually get it done. I challenge everyone reading this to workout at least four times a week until Christmas; let’s see if we can do it.
If working out was easy, we would all be at the gym all the time, but that is not the case. Sometimes it is hard to find the motivation. But once you start seeing results, the motivation will stick around for a while. So try these workout tips, I hope they help!
