Fall: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Why fall is just the best

Fall: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Megan Salo

Oh, fall. How I've missed you. Summer was nice: spending the days laying out by the pool, sleeping in and getting some hours in at work definitely beat going to class everyday. But I was always waiting, counting down the days until the most wonderful time of the year — fall. Why is fall the best season? Let me tell you:

Dressing for the weather

Fall weather is a God send after spending the summer sweating through tank tops and shorts and being afraid to venture outside. The warm-but-chilly temperature that screams fall is by far the best temperature that our world has to offer. Why? Two words — riding boots. Want to feel a little more put together when wearing leggings and a sweatshirt? Riding boots. Want to wear a skirt but want your legs to stay warm? Riding boots. They go with anything — leggings, skirt, jeans, anything!

Being able to cuddle up in a sweater with a fluffy vest and scarf is the most comforting thing. Throw in a hot tea or coffee, a blanket and some chick-flicks and every problem will instantly go away. Seriously. It's science.

Football season

Or as I call it — tailgate season. If you're a big sports fan, I'm sure fall is awesome for you. So much football! You can spend days on end just watching professional, college and high school games. Now, I'm not crazy about actually going to the games. Tailgating is more of my scene. Everyone is decked out in their team's gear, getting hyped for the game and just having a great time. As long as no one from the other team approaches, everyone at tailgates are almost always happy-drunk and giving away free food which I highly appreciate. Someone always brings their dog, there's always a truck to dance on and there's always someone to help you avoid the Porta-Potty lines when you have to pee. The feeling of camaraderie is most evident at a tailgate.

Pumpkin spice everything

I'm a huge fan of anything pumpkin flavored and I always have, so when it became a "basic girl" essential to never go out in public without a Pumpkin Spice Latte, I could've cried. I'm not even phased when the Starbucks barista rolls their eyes, silently judging me when I order my Venti. I'm not paying $5.65 to look basic, I'm buying it because it's freaking delicious. Now they even have the option to get it iced or as a frappuccino. Which is perfect for those days that it's too hot to drink a latte but you still need some pumpkin in your life.

Recently I've been noticing more and more pumpkin spice flavored items. Dunkin Donuts has a pumpkin donut (amazing), Burt's Bees has a pumpkin spice flavored lip balm (strange but good) and you can't walk through Target without running into some display of random pumpkin things (pretzels, caramel corn, K-Cups, etc.). What will they come up with next?! I honestly need to know so I can prepare.

It's not winter

Screw winter. Winter is the season from Hell. Maybe for those who are blessed enough to live in California or Florida may not despise this season as much, but if you're from the midwest you know what I'm talking about. It seems that there is a new record cold every winter somewhere in the midwest which really makes you question the accuracy of Global Warming. No one looks cute walking around campus in a coat that resembles a sleeping bag. No one. But it's either warmth or fashion and you can't look cute if you've died from hypothermia, so you wear the coat.

Speaking of walking around campus, if you have an 8 am after a big snow storm you are in for a treacherous journey. There will still be snow covering some of the sidewalks and you're likely going to end up on your butt at least once from stepping onto some black ice. And don't even think about going to class with wet hair unless you want hair-icicles.

From this evidence, I hope that you can come to the same conclusion as I have — fall is the best. Fall weather and clothes, football, pumpkin flavored everything and the fact that it's not winter are a few of my favorite things about fall, but the list goes on! If you need some more convincing, I would be happy to give you some more information in another article. But for now, I'll be on the lookout for a pumpkin spice IV. Happy fall everyone!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
