December is approaching rapidly, and with it comes the excitement of the holidays. Students, however, have to overcome a few more hurdles before they can enjoy their Winter Break. So in the style of the Christmas classic, Elf, here is a summary of the end of the semester, as told by Buddy the Elf:

When you realize that Christmas is almost here:

When you subsequently remember that finals week comes first:

When you know you should start studying, but you do anything you can think of to procrastinate:

When you fuel your body with sugar and caffeine just to get through the day:

When you try to ignore your responsibilities and get into the Christmas spirit:

When you would literally do anything to avoid talking about finals:

When you read the syllabus and realize the final is, in fact, cumulative:

When you realize that you've probably spread yourself a bit too thin with all of your responsibilities:

When you'd rather just run from all of your problems:

When you decide to check on your grades:

When your friend offers to share their study guide:

When that one kid says that they have no finals:

When you realize that you have way more to learn than you thought:

When you've lost track of how many cups of coffee you've had:

When you thought your professor liked you, but then you get your essay back:

When you feel like you just can't learn anymore:

When you finish your last final:

When you finally get to go home:

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
