Ah, fall. Cooler weather, the leaves are changing, and you can find anything pumpkin flavored that your heart desires. Most people think you have to live way out of town to enjoy fall entertainment, but here are 10 awesome ideas for dates or girls nights in or near Raleigh.


1. North Carolina State Fair.

The State Fair is a North Carolina fall tradition. You can take a ride on the ferris wheel, enjoy tons of exhibits from local artists and vendors, and enjoy anything your heart desires deep fried.

2. Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo.

This free admission event showcases food specialties from all over the state, all located downtown on Fayetteville Street. The event spans a half mile so there is sure to be something for everyone.

3. Raleigh Road Outdoor Theater.

Located about an hour from Raleigh in Henderson, N.C., Raleigh Road Outdoor Theater is one of the last operational drive-in theaters in North Carolina. They operate Friday and Saturday nights from March until December. If you are looking for something different to do this weekend, step back in time with Raleigh Road Outdoor Theater.

4. North Carolina State football.

If you happen to be looking for something to do on the weekend, check out the NC State Wolfpack at Carter-Finley Stadium. You can make a day of it by tailgating with other fans before the game. The Wolfpack football team is sure to give you an exciting day win or lose!

5. Lake Johnson Park.

Lake Johnson park is a beautiful area located off Avent Ferry Road. With more than 300 acres of land surrounding the lake, and over three miles or walking trails, this is sure to bring out the outdoorsman in everyone. There are also kayaks and paddle boards available to rent if it has not gotten too cold.

6. Glenwood South Oktoberfest.

Hosted by the Raleigh Beer Garden, this multi-day Oktoberfest will feature live music, contests, and plenty of food and drinks.

7. Hillsborough Hike.

Every year students and friends hike up Hillsborough Street in the annual Halloween Hike. Everyone is invited to join but you must be 21 to participate in the bar crawl.

8. Naylor Family Farm and Giant Corn Maze

Located just outside of Raleigh in Fuqua-Varina, Naylor Family Farm is your classic pumpkin patch and hayride location. Perfect to go get a great pumpkin to carve or to take visiting siblings!

9. North Carolina State farmers market.

The NC State Farmers Market is great any time of year, but especially fall. Not only do they have great fruits and vegetables, they also have lots of fall flowers and decorations.

10. American Roots Music and Arts Festival.

Located at Walnut Creek Amphitheater this year's festival showcases acts such as Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, and Eric Church for two nights! Great for a fall night of outdoor music and fun with friends.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
