Ah yes, the first day where the temperature high is 70 has approached us. Cue the wild cohort of millennials running to their nearest Starbucks and ordering 5 Pumpkin Spice Lattes. (Yes, 1 with each different kind of milk, and no that one gets no whip and yes that one extra-hot and, no, I wanted that as a Frappucino!) Fall has finally started to show it's face in Fresno which means I need to stock up on my coffee, make sure my sweaters still fit (I hope I haven't gained too much!) and is that depression finally going away?
Now obviously depression is no laughing matter, but something I have gathered from myself and my family is that depression is here and we just have to either ignore it or face it head on, but here's the kicker. For those who don't know SAD syndrome (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type of depression due to the change in seasons, usually starting in Fall and lasting throughout the winter and most of the therapy is combined with light. I personally believe my father suffered from it, because in the winter he was never able to go outside, because of the wild weather or now after in the rivers or snow on the mountains etc. Here I am though and as soon as I'm allowed to where my first wind breaker I break out a smile half of the United States can see.
The cold weather actually brings me such a happiness that not much else can. I open the windows on rainy days and turn off the heater and let my house fill with the cold air as I double up on socks and underwear! Is this weird? Like honestly, I will take a freezing cold November day, grab a Latte and slow cook the worlds best potato soup and be the happiest person ever just because the temperature didn't go over 65.
So tell me, please I beg of you. Are any of you like this? Would you take a full 3 layer outfit, an extra-hot Vanilla Fog and a warm cup of creamy soup over say a hot trip to the beach in your favorite swim trunks and an ice cold beer? I'm all up for opinions on the subject maybe over a cup of coffee and a warm chocolate croissant on a rainy day, but I doubt you could change my mind on what I think!
