Your Fall To Do List

Thursday, September 22nd marks the first day of fall. The leaves start to color, the air gets crisper, you savor a warm drink and start to pull your sweaters off their hangers. The start of fall means fall activities and if you enjoy the season as much as I do, you look forward to the fun fall activities during the season. Here is my fall to do list this season.

1. Pumpkin carve.

Take a trip to your local grocery store, or better yet, pumpkin patch, and find that perfectly plump and round pumpkin. Find a funny face or cool design to carve into it and gather some friends to make a mess and add a classic piece of the season to your place. Add a candle inside and turn out all the lights for that warm glow.

2. Make fall treats.

For most of us, fall means pumpkin flavored everything. Besides your classic pumpkin spiced latte, take a turn at baking some pumpkin and fall inspired treats. Try out baking pumpkin muffins, snickerdoodles, pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes or bake some fun-shaped sugar cookies and decorate them fall/Halloween themed (ex. ghosts, leaves, pumpkins, black cat, etc). I also recommend a warm cup of apple cider to pair with your treats.

3. Build a bonfire.

When the nights are chilly, grab some blankets and a sweater and gather your friends for a bonfire. Roast marshmallows for s'mores, tell scary stories and have a hot drink.

4. Take a hike.

Find a local trail or park in your town, grab your tennis shoes and a water bottle and explore around to see the color of the leaves begin to change.

5. Get spooked.

Go to a local haunted house or on a ghost tour to get in the spirit for Halloween. Scream too loud and jump too much with friends and then go home and watch your favorite scary movie with a bag of popcorn.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
