The summer heat has overstayed its welcome. We are not quite ready for the onslaught of snow and ice, nor are we prepared for spring showers. Fall comes at the perfect time, reminding us of the beauty all around us.

Just scrolling through pictures of fall favorites on our social media feeds warms our hearts. We cannot wait for the season of comfort, change and togetherness. Fall is a common favorite for a variety of reasons.

The decorations

Few things shout “home” like holiday decorations. I can easily call to mind the countless jack-o-lanterns, turkeys, leaves, etc. that my mom adorns our house with. It’s a sight to behold when we all take note of the changing seasons. Our noses delight at the mingling of apples, cinnamon and pumpkins this type of year.

The atmosphere

The crisp, cold, raw, biting air invigorates your soul. It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you walk out the door on a nice fall day. Everything is clear, OK, possible. The sky, a gray or dark blue, gives off a soothing vibe. We love bundling up in soft, comfy clothes- oversized sweaters, black leggings, boots and scarves.

The festivities

Pumpkin carving, going to haunted houses, getting lost in corn mazes, cheering at football games, sitting around bonfires, you name it. There are so many fun, unique activities we can spend our weekends doing that are not easily accessible year-round. Who else wishes Reese’s Pumpkins were sold year-round? And although I personally am not a fan, I know that candy corn is a definite crowd pleaser.

The transition

Change is in the air. The new school year comes into full swing. The leaves’ colors shift from dull green to gorgeous reds, oranges and yellows. The heat is no longer overpowering; cool temperatures creep into the forecast, and there is a breeze in the air.

The people

This is a popular time of year for meeting new people and cherishing old friends. Family gatherings allow you to step back and realize just how blessed you are by the people you have in your life. Who better to do all these fun fall activities with than the people who mean the most to you? Also, snuggling up in blankets to watch Halloween movies is such a cozy, relaxing way to spend your time with loved ones.

As the beginning of the best season quickly approaches, I am determined to take full advantage of these glorious few months. When the days start to grow shorter, I will work harder to make them count.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
