When most people think of fall they think of leaves changing colors, sweaters being worn, pumpkin spice lattes and bonfires but when it comes to Florida things are much different. While Floridians still break out their sweater weather attire and hit up their local Starbucks they aren’t preparing for the cold they are preparing for the impending hurricanes, more specifically Hurricane Matthew.
Being born and raised as a Floridian I never got to dress the full fall attire until I moved away for college. Whether it’s a big scarf, big comfy sweater or amazing boots, Floridians try to pull them off but the weather doesn’t necessarily cooperate. This particular fall Hurricane Matthew is proving to be especially difficult to cooperate with. Something tells me monogrammed rain jackets and rain boots wont even cut it. The rest of the country may be having bonfires in their crisp cool air but for Florida you’re not so lucky. I suggest wearing those cozy sweaters inside with your current favorite Netflix binge show playing and maybe some buttery popcorn and a pumpkin spice latte while the rain passes.
Apart from the fact that its Hurricane season for almost the entirety of fall, Floridians get left out of the cold weather thing. While no one looks forward to the below freezing temperatures of winter, everyone likes an occasional 60 degrees and sunny afternoon. I attended my fair share of bonfires throughout high school but they were all accompanied by getting to hot and going back inside or backing away from the fire. Everyone loves showing off their cute blanket scarves and sweaters with their new boots but some suggestions for those who lack the weather for the big sweaters, try and find some cardigans that give the appearance of fall but don’t actually give you a heat stroke in the sun. I hope everyone enjoys the cool crisp air and their pumpkin spice lattes, while Floridians I hope you enjoy your rainy days and Netflix binges.
