With the summer months coming to an end, and school soon to be in session there are a few things that everybody is excited for. I'm not just talking about Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks - to be honest I never liked them anyway - but the small things that really make you love the chilly months before the winter holiday season.
Fall can seem pretty quick considering how quickly people put up holiday decorations or even preparing for the new year. So, I pledge to appreciate the fall a little more and recognize the little characteristics of the cozy season that make life a little more bare-able.
1. Halloween
One of the biggest holidays of the year and it seems to fly by so fast. I don't know about you, but my favorite part of Halloween is most definitely the scary movies, haunted houses, and costumes. I find most of the costumes hilarious and who can say no to a good haunted house. Halloween is one day in the fall and it literally lasts one day. It doesn't get as celebrated as Christmas - which seems to last for months.
2. Leaves
Iliza Schlesinger basically calls out every girl who loves fall (specifically autumn leaves) in her stand up, Freezing Hot, but what I don't understand is what's there not to love. The leaves and the weather are the two of the greatest things to love about fall. It's aesthetically pleasing, breathtaking and heartbreaking all at the same time. The leaves each have their own shade as they're dying, but we need to appreciate the colorful beauty before white covers the branches.
3. Hockey Season
Hockey season in October an ends in June. Needless to say, the start of hockey season is something to look forward to.
4. Hot Chocolate
(or any preferred autumn themed drink)
Every person has a go to fall drink, personally I love hot chocolate and chai tea, but that's just me. Retail and coffee joints really take advantage of this season and you should too, because it only comes once a year and before you know it, the Christmas cups are coming out or your New Year's resolution prevents you from drinking said festive drink.
