Fall Break: Nursing Student Edition

First break as a nursing student.

Fall Break: Nursing Student Edition

When you’re in college, your breaks are devoted to family, friends, chill time, and studying. Before I started the nursing program, I spent my breaks getting a head start on some homework and then spending most of my time with family and friends. Breaks were always a good refresher before going back to the ebb and flow of school.

After entering into the nursing program this semester, I either had class or my eyes were glued to my computer doing homework. At first, the work seemed overwhelming, but,

\overtime, the work became routine and normal. I actually like doing the homework sometimes because it keeps me busy, and it is also what my passion is. School work becomes different when that school work coincides with what you want to do as a career; however, it is great to have a break from the busyness of life.

As a newbie nursing student, this is what I did during my fall break:

1. Homework, homework, and more homework...

I spent the first couple of days of fall break getting my homework done that is due for this week. It’s great to get ahead with homework because I can study for all of my exams (which is usually 3) that I have every week. Instead of being focused on homework, I can be focused on studying instead. It usually takes me a couple of days to complete homework because I like to take a few breathers in between assignments. Sometimes those breathers include taking a nap for a few hours.

2. Pathophysiology paper

Fall break is also great to get ahead on your research paper that is due in about 2 weeks. For this class, we randomly drew a body system out of a bag, and then we had to research a disease process that is found in that body system. It takes several days to create this paper. The first day was solely devoted to researching my topic. This was an adventure. I am so glad that there was someone in the library to help me because I had no idea how to use the search engines for research. After researching, the next several days were devoted to writing the paper and figuring out what I wanted to say. After accomplishing what I had planned on completing, then I had some fun...

3. Had a blast at the Georgia National Fair

Before heading back to class, I took a much needed breather. I went to the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia with a great friend and her sweet, sweet family. It was such a nice trip to have fun and blow off some steam. There is just something about giant swings, circuses, live animals, fair food, and great friends. Our time together was filled with laughter and fellowship. We were able to be kids again and enjoy what time we had left of fall break before returning to school. It feels nice to step away from school work and take a little adventure to somewhere you have never been before. I did learn something over fall break though... I really like FAIRS!!!

So this is what I did over fall break 2016. You may think that my fall break was simple, but I absolutely enjoyed it because I made so many priceless memories. That right there is such a valuable part of life.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
