As of now, Falcons are 2-4, with an embarrassing 41-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers just recently. To be honest, I'm at a loss for words. The Steelers are playing pretty well this season, but that's no excuse to lose by 24 points, especially when you have one of the best offenses in the NFL, and I know that. In that game, the offense struggled to find a rhythm, and the lack of defensive options on the Falcons side led to a plethora of Steeler scores. I really need the Falcons to win more games, because it's just gut wrenching to see them play like this after doing well in the last few seasons.
With defensive stars like Deion Jones, Keanu Neal, and Grady Jarrett struggling with injury this season, the Falcons have the WORST defense in the league by points given up. That's not surprising to me, considering all of our major defensive stars are being replaced by poor second-string players. Even with a top ten offense, the Falcons cannot succeed without a strong defensive presence.
The other week, the Falcons scraped past the Buccaneers in a game that should not have been as close as it was. It was another game decided in the final seconds, but this one went the Falcons' way, as opposed to the games versus the Bengals and the Saints earlier this season. I'm a bit worried about these close games; the Falcons like to play a bit cautiously, but end up just giving away more points, which is why their games are usually closes.
However, the Falcons have a relatively easy record coming up, playing the 1-5 Giants and the 2-3-1 Browns. These are definitely not great teams, but if they can break even at 4-4, the Falcons will have at least a shot at making the playoffs through the NFC Wildcard. I think it is safe to say that the Saints will run away with the division, with Brees and the Saints' defense playing the way they are so far. I honestly believe that we could easily get to 4-4, but after
Looking ahead, with several star players on defense to return in the next couple of weeks, the Falcons could start winning games if the offense gets the job done, which so far they have. The Falcons have a tough challenge ahead of them, including the Saints, but I believe in them, and so should you. Don't count the Falcons out just yet. We could be a part of another comeback story, but this time, fate is in our hands, and the Falcons could write their own destiny.
