“Fake it till you make it”
It’s a great phrase. Quite possibly, the best phrase. It is true at almost any point in life and is pretty solid advice. The two times I see it really being beneficial is when at a new job or when talking about confidence.
At a new job, you might be really confused and overwhelmed. You might feel like you have no clue what you are supposed to be doing and you might find yourself just standing around. I feel like this is pretty normal. The best advice really is, fake it till you make it. Just pretend like you know what you are doing and ask questions. You will need confidence to do this.
When it comes to confidence this is also a great phrase. Now, most of us are not born with a tremendous amount of confidence and so we have to develop it. Growing your confidence can be hard though.
It is much easier to pretend like you are confident even if you aren’t yet. Go out acting like you are the best in the world and people will start seeing you that way. Be that person that says “of course everyone loves me.” Be the person everyone wishes they were. Just play the part. Not to say don’t be you. Just be the confident version of you.
Small side tangent- I don’t know about everybody else but when I am reading a book and there is a main character that I like that’s a girl I always picture her looking like me. Do I look anything like they described Katniss Everdeen? No. Did I picture myself going through the Hunger Games (twice), saving Peeta and being a rebel leader? Of course!
I think about these strong characters when I need confidence. You just kind of pull from the strength you know that your favorite characters have. The strength that you know you have too, somewhere inside you. – Okay enough about books.
Anyway, the point is that don’t feel bad for pretending sometimes. If you have to fake it for a little while that is completely okay. Then, before you know it that fake confidence will be real. You won’t just have to pretend like you know what you are doing, you will know what you are doing. So kids, fake it till you make it.
