We all know about Fake Patty's right? But does everyone know how it started? Like how did this crazy event become a thing? Well, we all know the real St. Patty's lands on the first weekend of spring break. Because of this students felt they were missing out on a chance to party in the town they love.
So years ago a few students decided to create the famous Fake Patty's Day, which lands the weekend before spring break starts. It continues to be one of the biggest holidays of the year in Manhattan, KS. With hundreds of thousands traveling to the small town to get just a glimpse of the action.
For those of us who live in MHK, we know all too well what is coming up. Every t-shirt place in town starts selling clothing weeks before the event, banners are hung up throughout The Ville, bars are selling wristbands for the event, and just about everyone else is preparing for the crazy weekend that will soon be upon us all.
It is also that time where everyone who does not live in this beautiful amazing town suddenly wants a place to crash. Wait you go to KU and you want to suddenly stay with someone here? In Manhattan? You have talked bad about us all year though? Oh, wait so we aren't that bad after all? Okay, whatever.
Many of us began preparing weeks in advice for the event. Buying t-shirts is a big thing for FPD, but it is far from the only thing. Girls especially go a little excess on the FPD supplies. They buy beads, beads with shot glasses on them, FPD removable tattoos, and everything needed for their morning mimosas the day of the event.
Guys, on the other hand, are a little more laid back. Yes most of them are still going to buy a t-shirt, because who turns down an excuse to buy another t-shirt? However, this is not the highest thing on most guys priority list. The KEG. What kind? How much will I charge? You can find guys on Twitter days before the event tweeting a poll on which brand of beer they should get for their keg on FPD.
FRATS. When are they not looking for an excuse to have a party and what better time to have one? The social chairs of these frats live for this day. You will find many having joint/massive parties.
Not a morning person? Well this is something that will change for this particular event. Students often start to party very early on FPD, some even as early as 5 am. How can we wake up at 5 am to drink all day, but can not make it to our 10:30 am class on Mondays? Who knows.
Students and businesses are not the only people who have prepared weeks in advance. The Riley County Police Department prepares very well for the event every year. They have everyone on staff working that day and added to that they have multiple other departments who come in from all over the state.
All this for one day of fun?
