Faith, Hope, And Love

But the greatest of these is love

Faith, Hope, And Love
Caleb Fenske

1 Corinthians 13

“And now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love.”

Reading over this verse in some spare time this week I could not stop but to think how relevant this is for today’s issues. The despair after the election, the protest at the pipeline, the killings of humans, and acts of violence, lead us all to wonder why, and what, we can do. This verse tells us three exact things to do.

Have Faith

Faith can mean many things to many different people, but in the end it can be defined as putting trust or power in something else. We know we have a loving, caring, almighty God that would not let bad things happen without purpose. We need to have faith and let God take control. This also includes listening to God as well. I am not saying to sit back and everything will be fine, but putting trust in God will reveal some answers. You may be called to a protest, may be led to speak, or guided to comfort. It all starts with faith.

Hope

We need to stay hopeful. To quote my good friend Ben: “Wanting the President to fail is like wanting the pilot of your plane to fail.” We would not want that. We need to stay hopeful. There are many people upset about the result of the election, it cannot be changed, all that can happen now is that you have to hope, let’s not cheer someone on to fail, let’s help them succeed. Keep hopeful.

Greatest of these is Love

The hate and problems with the world are not the leader’s fault, not the media’s fault, it is our fault. If you want to make the world a better place, erasing hate, then love. Love your Muslim friend, love your White friend, your Black one, love woman, and children, love Indigenous people; love them. There is a reason it is the greatest of these.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
