For many people, it's finals week, and for almost every college student, that means semester grades are getting ready to come out soon.
I know at least for me, this semester was tough, especially considering it was my first semester in college. I struggled a lot, given the heavy course load I was taking, and my drop in grades definitely threw me for a loop. I, like many other honors students, am used to getting high grades, so coming into the semester and receiving 60s, 70s and 80s in my classes was tough. I thought about switching my major, I was second guessing myself and was thinking, maybe I'm not in the right field. But after talking to my parents, my advisor, and my counselor, I realized that it's ok.
College is a tough adjustment for anyone, no matter what your major is or no matter how many credits you come in with. It's a completely new environment, so a drop in grades is completely natural. Now that's not to say that if you fail a test you shouldn't do anything about it, but if that happens, it's just a little setback. Go from that moment on, thinking about it like an evaluation, showing you what you need to work on. Maybe you need to study more, maybe your normal study habits won't work for this class. Try reaching out to a professor, tutor or advisor for help. And if you try everything you can and study your hardest and you're still not as successful as you want to be? That's okay. Not everyone is perfect.
So go into this finals week with your head held high, your chin up and a positive outlook. Don't think about your final marks, just try your hardest on the test/jury/scene/evaluation in front of you, and when you're done, take a breath. Have some time to yourself. Grab some food with friends, play a game, watch that new season of your favorite show. Don't spend time stressing yourself out over something that you can't change.
