I Failed, But God Said I Succeeded

God has a plan for you no matter what the grade.

I Failed, But God Said I Succeeded
Peter Pilt

There is not one person I know in this world who does not get stressed out by tests. In fact, I, myself, get so stressed out by tests, and lots of other things in general. It is so important to me because I do not want to be looked at as someone who did not try as hard or who failed. In fact, failure to me could mean getting a "C" on a test. A "C" is supposed to be average, yet I look at that as a failure. Tests and scores lower self-esteem. In fact, I compare my worth against other people all the time. If I get an "A-" and think that is a success for me, there will always be someone else who receives an "A++" (the extra plus meaning extra credit or something), making me look worse. There will always be someone who does more than me or tries harder. It is physically and mentally draining to try and keep up with other people.

But, honestly, why? Why are we all stressing over tests? Tests are not eternal. They are temporary. God is eternal. While getting an education is important, it is more important to know that God loves you and thinks you are smart and important no matter what the outcome. In fact, nothing in this world is important enough to lose God or heaven over.

You could be the smartest person in the world and study for hours, and still not be satisfied with your score. Grades do not define you. Grades are just Satan’s way of thinking they exemplify how smart you are. Satan wants you to think that an "F" means you are a failure and that you are not smart. He wants you to quit and to never try again. He wants you to believe that you are worthless and not worthy of approval. However, God does not. God wants you to try again. He believes you can do anything you set your mind to, and he loves you no matter what.

No matter what the outcome, God has a plan for you. God will use your failures to his advantage. He doesn’t want you to believe what Satan is telling you. He wants you to have faith in him and to keep believing in yourself. He will always be there if you need someone to rant to about getting a bad grade or anything else. In fact, he wants you to talk to him no matter what. He understands and will love you regardless. Isn’t he amazing?

Your professors or teachers may view your grade as failing or passing. But God thinks you are extraordinary and that you will do amazing things. He will drive you to do even greater things than grades could ever do for you. Grades are temporary. There will always be room for improvement. Not that God is asking for it, because he already had a plan for you before you were born.

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” Romans 8:28

“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

You do not have to worry about temporary things like grades. Grades are so little compared to what God has in store for you. There is so much more to life than the grades you receive on a report card. Regardless, God will not let you slip away from His plan, because he loves you and has an amazing plan for you. It is so freeing to have faith in God no matter what earthly things like grades are telling you. Have faith in him and you will see so much more than what grades could give you. His plans are bigger than your dreams.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
