This past week I had the opportunity to go to the Pixar exhibit in Chicago at the Museum of Science and Industry. I learned so much about the workings behind our favorite movies. Here are 6 of my favorite facts behind the classics.
1. Toy Story was the world's first feature length computer-animated movie
Toy Story opened us up into a new type of animation which launched Pixar into the spotlight.
2. Pixar build over 1,000 character models for Toy Story.
Every single toy in Toy Story is different. in fact there were 1,000 characters designed for this movie. Who knew!
3. Sulley has 2.3 million hairs in Monsters, Inc.
The fluffy monster we all love has many details. In fact he has 2.3 million details in his hair alone!
4. It took 3 days of processing to create one of the images in the Monsters, Inc. final image.
With having 2.3 million hairs, it took many hours of processing for us to get the movie we all know and love today.
5. Finding Nemo was the first movie to have believable water effects
The animators at Pixar had 3 kinds of water effects made for Finding Nemo, the surface, water droplets, and spray.
6. In Cars, the scene with all 15 cars required millions of calculations to create the reflections.
Cars was the first movie of its kind to have the reflective surfaces in the movies. It is a minor detail, but it made all the difference when it came to what we thought of Cars.
