Anxiety, like most mental illnesses, is not a joke. Some of us feel physical pain in addition to mental pain, we feel like we're drowning. Not everyone tells the truth about how anxiety is to them. Although most on the list does not apply to everyone, here are 10 things that people with anxiety feel, but yet don't tell anyone.
We tend to keep ourselves busy to distract us from our problems
Everyone tends to keep busy for various reasons, for those with anxiety, they tend to overwhelm themselves with different things to distract them from their actual problems. Unfortunately, that does not work most of the time as it adds on to the anxiety.
The smiles we put on our faces, is totally fake
For some of us, you can tell the smile is obliviously fake, other people you would have to look in the eyes to see if the smile is really true or not.
We don't tell about how our inner demons truly affect us
Although people with anxiety don't face inner demons like those with depression do, I sometimes refer Sometimes our inner demons haunt us in unsuspecting moments, for me is whenever it is dark and I'm alone that these demons haunt me.
We feel like a burden when we talk to you about our problems
Because the same problems we face may be easy for you to conquer and we fear that we may get the whole "it's not big deal talk," but it is to us because we are having anxiety attacks over it.
We often need reassurance about simple things, more specifically people
We sometimes get doubts in our heads of what someone's motives are with us and we want reassurance that they are there for the right reason. Last time I tried to get reassurance from someone, they flipped and never spoke to me again because they were mad that I wanted to talk about their motives are with me because they were acting weird and felt dread when they had to include me. This wasn't just years ago, it was in July of this year and they were my "friends and family."
We feel like we aren't taken seriously
Sometimes when we feel truly uncomfortable in a situation, and we say something; more often or not were told "we need to get over it" or "you just using your illness as an excuse." That hurts us because not many of us confide in people and if someone confides in you about their anxiety and they are uncomfortable, get them out and help them.
We are tired of getting told that we're using our mental illness as an excuse
Some people unfortunately do all the time and it does get on my nerves. However, if someone has to quit an organization because of mental health issues, don't accuse them of using their mental health as an excuse because chances are if they are quitting, their mental health has gotten worse since they joined the organization.
Sometimes we lack sleep because of anxiety
Anxiety will keep us up late at night wondering what we have to do, or we lack sleep because our inner demon likes to haunt us in our sleep. I was lacking sleep for three weeks and not telling anyone until I had a nightmare one night about dying, that I finally told my mom. I was given stronger medication and a need to go to counseling by my doctor.
We have pains that we question whether or not it is anxiety or something else
For me my pains are in my chest and it feels like I'm going to have a heart attack, sometimes I question it. My doctor has given me information to distinguish between anxiety pain and heart attacks. IF YOU HAVE THE PAINS, GO TO A DOCTOR TO CHECK IT OUT, DON'T ASSUME IT IS ANXIETY.
If we tell you these things, it means we trust you
Some us have trust issues because of past experiences, don't take advantage of their trust.
