Fact: College Students Have A Lot In Common With Dwight Schrute

Dwight Schrute, the legendary Assistant (to the) Regional Manager for the Scranton Branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, is most commonly found in his natural habitat - at the office, seated across from his best friend / arch nemesis Jim Halpert. Most likely to be seen sporting a mustard-colored, short-sleeved collared shirt, Scranton’s leading paper salesman is also a bed-and-breakfast proprietor at Schrute Farms (a beet plantation), has experience serving as a volunteer sheriff deputy, and is a purple belt in martial arts. In addition, Dwight shares a passion for cat-obsessed Christian women named Angela, bobblehead figurines, and sci-fi fantasy.

At first glance, it may appear as if there is no possible way for a normal human to have anything in common with the eclectic and exotic Dwight Schrute, but after a Schrute-style investigative inspection, you may be surprised.

You're self-confident and you know it.

College is more than just a time to attend football games and go downtown four nights a week -- it is an opportunity to find yourself and live up to your true potential. The feeling of acing a test, not skipping a single class all week, or finishing your research paper two minutes before the midnight deadline will definitely make you feel on top of the world.

You are really interested in pop culture.

There is so much going on in the world every day and it is imperative to stay up to date with current events -- or at least attempt to. Whether it be music, the economy or politics, your interest in the happenings of the world enable you to become a more well-rounded individual.

Protecting your friends is one of your top priorities.

Sometimes, you have to take one for the team. Whether you are your roommates go-to person to kill a spider or you can always be counted on to carry mace in your purse, you laugh in the face of danger and are ready to attack.

You absolutely love the holidays. Spreading Christmas cheer is your favorite.

Ah, the season of giving. Winter break, eggnog, twinkling lights and presents make the holiday season harmonious, regardless if you are an employee at the office or a student at college.

You can really hold a grudge.

We are all human and have flaws. They say it is important to 'forgive and forget,' but sometimes, that is simply too much to ask.

You always think before you act.

For you, decision making is a methodological process that involves taking into consideration independent and dependent variables as well as weighing the pros and cons of each scenario. Making a spontaneous and careless move is not how you choose to live your life.

You value loyalty above all else.

Loy·al·ty: noun

The quality of being loyal to someone or something; a strong feeling of support or allegiance.

Enough said.

You have a sensitive side, who doesn't?

Though you maintain a tough and strong demeanor, sometimes life is hard and people are mean. It is okay to cry. Don't ever be ashamed of letting your softness show.

No worries, you bounce back fast.

A large part of being young is having resilience and adaptability. In these challenging times, you cannot allow yourself to be weighed down by fleeting emotions and feelings. You remain calm, cool and collected and move on.

You love having fun, but you also have a serious side.

You know how to have a great time - whether it be at the office or a frat party but when its time to get serious, you know how to separate buisness and pleasure.

You are concerned about environmental issues.

Global warming is a real threat. Each human's carbon footprint is growing larger and larger each year. I think we all can agree that there is a valid concern to begin looking into inhabiting another planet.

You are a team player.

Group projects, intramural sports, you name it - you are always supportive. There is no 'I" in team - except there is in "Dwight" and "winning." Personal wins are just as important as a team win.

You have an enduring work ethic and attention to detail.

You are a fantastic student and will be an even greater employee because of your determination and drive for success. Any office would be lucky to have you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.
