Recently, I read a post on Odyssey in which a woman stated why she was NOT a feminist. I watched as the comments rolled in, some of which agreed with this post and others strongly opposed. The writer of this post was receiving some serious heat. With feminism being such a hot button issue in today's culture, I was surprised to see that this was a topic that this woman was willing to speak on. In today's society, anything and everything seem to be a trigger word, so I was impressed. I do have to admit, though, I agree with what she was saying.
I personally believe that the feminist culture has gotten out of hand. Women are emasculating men and creating a culture which is backward to what God has designed. This theory that women have created for themselves in which they believe they are extremely liberated and can do more than men really irritates me. I see the point that women are definitely more capable than society once led them to believe. I understand the importance of voting, working, and having a voice in this world. I understand the desire to be independent and wanting to vocalize opinions. I understand the need to be educated and well-versed. At the same time, I also understand that God has created a system where men were built to be the breadwinner of the family. The man was designed to have a natural desire to protect and secure his family.
We have this backward in today’s society. I believe that the women of today should reevaluate their beliefs and should delve into scripture. The Bible does not say that a woman should feel oppressed and beneath men, but it does say that wives should submit to their husbands and learn to gain respect for the decisions that they make. Proverbs 31 is a perfect chapter for women to follow in terms of being an independent woman.
"Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
