Facing Fears One Tequila Shot At A Time

Life is too short to live on the sidelines.

Facing Fears One Tequila Shot At A Time

I recently went to Punta Cana and learned two very valuable things. One, just because the alcohol is free doesn't mean you need to down one every 15 min. Your next day will not be fun at all, even if you think you've prepared yourself for this week. You haven't, nothing has prepared you for those piña coladas and tequila shots. Nothing. The second thing I learned, something that is probably a little bit more useful in life, is scuba diving. Now, if you know anything about me you know I'm petrified of the ocean. So why would I spend that kind of money on something I am deathly afraid of? Well the answer is, life is all about facing your fears, and as sad as it is you have no idea how long you are going to live. So, do you spend your time on the beach sitting there and watching everyone else go on fun excursions? Or do you take that fear and punch it in its face?

So I did what anyone would do.

I destroyed my fear. Killed it in fact. Not only did I get into the ocean and face my fear, I made it so that I was 30ft below the water with practically no escape. Some may be wondering how many tequila shots I had to think that was a good idea. But, it was the best idea I had ever made. I not only swam in the ocean, but I fed fish. Something that is so small to some but was so huge to me. I had them swarming all around my body eating out of my hands and I absolutely loved it. I wanted nothing more than to continue spending my hours below the water.

In translation, and the main thing I want you to take away from this is: Get out there, try something that scares you, even if you hate it at least you know you tried it. Life is too short to sit on the sidelines.

Cheers!

Disclaimer: Never drink and drive, er, dive.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
