Summer is undeniably a time for restlessness, idleness, and copious amounts of time wasted. Even though the end of May brings optimistic hopes of "getting a head start" on reading for the fall semester or "finally getting healthy" or catching up on your sleep so you can be on a "normal sleep pattern". But, without fail, the end of July comes around before you've gotten the chance to catch up with all those hometown high school friends you promised you would. One of the greatest time suckers of all time is our best friend and worst enemy, Netflix. All my binge watchers out there living large this summer (not leaving bed all day), this is for you.
1. The "You have to watch this show"
Alright, if you say so. It sounds interesting enough.
2. The "Can't get enough"
They're known to scream, "This is the best show ever written!"
3. The "Trying and failing to avoid spoilers"
Bonus points if your friends have already seen the whole series and constantly forget that you haven't.
4. The "It's a beautiful day outside but I can't be bothered"
Sure, everyone you know is on vacation or at a music festival, but you're enjoying hours of endless entertainment for (almost) free.
5. The "This is the last episode I'm watching before I go to sleep"
Who decided that every single episode should end in a cliffhanger? What sick, twisted person has done this to me?
6. The "Have you done anything all day?"
No, Mom, I have not. And I will not.
7. The "OMG, I finished a season in less than a day"
I feel a weird combination of pride and disgust at your "accomplishment."
8. The "Only three more episodes!!!"
There are far too many loose ends; they cannot possibly resolve everything.
9. The "What do you mean that's the end?!"
I demand more!!! Reunite the cast! Make a movie! Anything to keep the series alive!
10. The "My life is empty without this show"
The characters felt like friends, maybe even family, and without their lives to distract you from your own, everything just feels pointless.
11. The "What should I watch next?"
You will find another show to binge and you will repeat the entire process again. But then again, if you don't, maybe you'll actually get up and start doing productive things!
