This year is going to be The Year of The Woman, and Rosie Thompson, a nursing assistant living in South Carolina is going to help make it happen. Thompson started a Facebook page dedicated to showcasing women in the community and their special qualities in hopes that it would bring awareness to the strong women in her community that do not get enough recognition for all they do.
Thompson made an introductory post that stated, "Looking around me and realizing the strength of so many different women (and men, actually) absolutely blew me away. And I want to continue cultivating this realization throughout our community." She wants to keep pushing for equality in her community, and she is going to do so by recognizing those around her who are making a difference.
The first two women recognized on the page were Sims Katherine Hall and Mikaela Harrel, both natives of Upstate South Carolina. Some of the things mentioned about these women are who they are, what they do, and why they were chosen. Thompson said "Sims consistently expresses her gratitude for all of those that have influenced her life, having no idea just how much of an impact she makes on those same people. Sims is one of those people who you simply know cares deeply for you, not because she says it, but because her actions constantly show it."
If you would like to contact Thompson, you can visit We The Women on Facebook and send them a message. Also, if you have any women in your life that you, too would like to recognize, send them a message with a photo, the woman's name and why you want them to be recognized.
