After announcing that Florida is reopening in phase and into the full phase one, theme parks in Orlando are able to submit their plans on reopening to the public. Ever since the closure of the parks, many passholders and guests in general have been waiting on their heels for information that will tell them when they can go back to their happy places.
While there has been mass speculation about the conditions of how theme park reopening will be, it has been exceedingly clear that wearing a face mask will be important. Disneyland in Shanghai opened earlier this month and required guests to wear face masks in addition to adhering to social distancing guidelines.
Wearing a face mask has been a hot topic; many argue that face masks are worn to protect yourself while others argue that it is supposed to protect others. There's a multitude of people who are arguing the increasing number of businesses requiring for visitors to wear masks that have been blowing up online.
The argument of people who are against face masks is that while wearing a face mask, breathing may become difficult and can cause health problems. Going into summer weather, there is the argument presented that wearing a mask with Florida heat will result in people having difficulty being comfortable and the potential of having a heat stroke. There's a multitude of people who argue that if you truly have a problem going to a place that requires you to wear a mask, then just don't go.
On May 21, Universal Orlando announced that it had a plan to reopen to the public on June 5. It was confirmed that all visitors and workers must wear face masks if they are to go to the parks. Instantly there was a public outcry of people complaining that they do not want to go to Universal if it means they have to wear a mask.
Wearing a face mask isn't a matter of comfort. Whether it's to protect yourself or the people around you, it's been established that wearing face masks can help slow the spread of COVID-19. Going back to my retail job, wearing a face mask is a requirement for employees but not for guests; some have given grief as seeing people working masks make them feel uncomfortable in the store. If you don't agree with wearing a face mask, wearing it anyways is just the right thing to do to help flatten the curve.
