One of my all-time favorite activities to do (because of its zero effort required and zero ability to make my abs hurt for days) is people watching. It is something we all do without even thinking twice. I decided to put second thought into it, however, and come up with a list of places I have found which supply the most entertainment in the form of the embarrassment of strangers.
The best people to watch are the ones who probably don’t own a mirror...and if they do, it must have been bought secondhand from a clown house. They are easy to spot because they stand out from the norm. Stand out is actually an understatement for these fabulous people. In my opinion, they should have their own separate species. I don’t know where they get their clothes or who let them out of the house, but whatever the case, I’m thankful.
I know many of you have really busy schedules, so I want to help narrow down your search of the best places to people watch. My top five and reasons why are below:
Mall food court:
I don’t know
what it is about the mall. No matter the location, and its small selection of
unhealthy treats, it attracts the best of them. The people who make rounds
to collect the most free samples are usually the ones to keep your focus the
longest.
Walmart:
It might be
the everyday low prices that attract these humans, but goodness gracious. it's
like fashion isn’t understood or known. I’ve found the best of them by the
food, usually the soda or candy aisle.
Gas stations:
The best are the travelers. I am actually guilty of this one. Last week I pumped my gas in 20 degree weather and freezing rain while wearing shorts and a tank top. You can’t predict Texas weather. I wouldn’t be surprised if I showed up in some other people’s snapchats as “crazy girl”.
Resort location pools:
I’ve noticed it more this year than any previous year I’ve been to a resort. Ihere are either girls wearing tall wedges with bikini tops and high waisted short shorts (see my previous article "The Good, The Bad, and The Absolutely Heinous," to understand my feelings towards these) OR even worse, a full on outfit of jeans/sweatpants and cotton t-shirt. The worst part is seeing the full ensemble soaked from the pool. My point being: swim suits are apparently "sooo yesterday."
Airports:
This kind
of goes a long with the same idea as gas stations, you get people from all
around. There are two types of people suited best for their travels and your
viewing pleasure: the women dressed full-out (I’m talking matching shirt,
pants, shoes, luggage, dog, dog’s sweater, dog’s leash) and the ones who look
like, and probably did, just jump out of bed and almost miss their flight
(probably wearing something I wouldn’t even wear to bed).
Although these are my top five locations, people watching can be enjoyed pretty much anywhere in the world. I find nothing wrong with getting a kick out of humanity every once in a while.
