They say that it's the eyes that are the window to your soul, but I am starting to think that it is your eyebrows. Hear me out. Your eyebrows not only help show expression, but really help frame your face and even your personality. Have you ever seen those pictures of celebrities without their eyebrows? Terrifying. It's hard to believe that just a little bit of hair above your eyelids can make such an impact on your appearance.
Over the last couple months, I have heard and seen things referring to 'strong eyebrow game' (see Lilly Collins, Cara Delevigne, or Emmy Rosum). Their eyebrows have a strong, defined shape and are thick without being manly. Today, strong eyebrow game simply means that your brows are perfectly shaped and tweezed, which if you have dark hair like me can be a full time job. Here are the three main ways to keep your own eyebrow game strong:
1. Tweezing
The simplest, and best way for those quick fixes. When tweezing and shaping your own brows, be sure to line or fill in your eyebrows with eyebrow/eyeliner pencil to make sure you tweeze to your desired shape. This will help make sure they are even are both sides of your face. And before you pick up the tweezers, put them in a freezer for 5-10 minutes before. This will relive some of that pain.
2. Waxing
Arguably the most popular method for eyebrow shaping and my personal favorite. My first eyebrow wax was awful. The wax was too hot, and I ended up leaving with second degree burns above my eyes. Luckily, since then, I have found a woman that I have been seeing at home for the last couple years who knows exactly how to shape my eyebrows and always fills me in on the latest gossip.
3. Threading
I have always heard mixed reviews on this one.Though the method itself is nothing new, it still seems to be lagging behind waxing. It works very well and is great for people with sensitive skin, but can be more painful than waxing, especially when doing the threading yourself. Threading removes lines of hair at a time, like with waxing, but removes the hair at a deeper level than tweezing alone.
Next time you look in the mirror, take a second look at your eyebrows. Is the shape even on both sides? Is the shape/size right for your face? Have you tweezed or waxed lately? There are lots of little details to consider when shaping your eyebrows. Next time you leave the house, make sure you have your head in the eyebrow game.
