6ABC reports that early Tuesday morning, an apartment complex on the 1800 block of Pine Street in Center City, Philadelphia woke up to an alarming sound. An explosion. Attendants had to evacuate immediately for safety precautions.
Reports are coming in that a 62-year male received a package that wasn’t delivered by the Postal Service, but rather placed there. Bringing assumptions that he was specifically targeted. When the envelope was opened by the man in the morning— it exploded.
The explosion was small, causing the man bodily injuries. He's in stable condition and being treated at Jefferson University Hospital.
There were no other people were harmed. However, there was shattered glass, blood and building damage in the kitchen of the man’s apartment where the package was opened.
While the motive of this attack is unclear, the original thought of terrorism or hate crime have been ruled out.
Attendants were cleared to reenter the building but Pine Street is to be closed for the remainder of the day while the investigation continues.
