Going to school at Florida State University is great. The campus is beautiful and there are so many activities to do on-campus. However, as most know, the adventure here is lacking. Here are a few places to travel to when The Strip or Pots aren’t cutting it.

1. Thomasville, GA

Just down the street there is a quaint town that offers several restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. This is the perfect place to go when you are looking to relax and maybe spend a little money. I mean, retail therapy never hurt anybody, right? Well, plan on spending a couple bucks here because once you walk into the boutiques, you won’t be able to resist. With it being just 40 minutes away, Thomasville is the perfect excuse to get out of Florida, even if it’s just a couple miles from the border.

2. Providence Canyon

Georgia isn’t only home to Thomasville. Located just two hours away is a hiking extravaganza. Providence Canyon will leave you a red-clay mess, but you’ll have fun becoming it! This national park offers several hiking trails along with picnic tables and very picturesque scenery. Head here in the winter or early spring months and it will make for a perfect get-away.

3. Seaside, FL

If you’re looking for a nice beach near-by, Seaside is the place for you. But be careful…you might miss it when you’re driving down the Florida Panhandle. This small town has some of the nicest beaches that are fairly close to the Tallahassee area. After a day soaking up some rays, head into the town for lunch or dinner. Food trucks line the main street offering everything from gourmet grilled cheeses to good ole southern BBQ. Also make sure to check out the local stores for some of the comfiest Comfort Color tees around!

4. Wakulla Springs, FL

Springs are something that Florida holds very special so why not take advantage of them! Wakulla Springs may have very chilly water, but the area is somewhere special to explore. Manatees sometimes roam the waters making for a unique sight to see. You can also take a plunge by jumping off the elevated platform. This place is perfect for all types of people. Sit back in a tube and relax or unleash your daredevil side!

5. St Marks Lighthouse

St Marks Lighthouse is a place not many people know about. With it being only 30 minutes away from Tallahassee, St Marks is a great location to go for a quick day trip. Yes, there is a beautiful lighthouse to see, but there are also several walking paths available for you to explore the area. Being on the Gulf of Mexico, this place can get very chilly so make sure to pack a jacket if you travel here in the winter months!

Florida is a unique state with plenty of places to explore. If none of these areas sound interesting to you, just simply search “Things to do around Tallahassee” and I’m sure something will strike your fancy. Hop in a car and get out there!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
