7 Things To Do In Athens Other Than Going To Class

With all the new baby dawgs just moving in, I figured I would share some things to do when you're not in class aka avoiding your homework. I think it is super important to see all Athens has to offer beyond UGA, so here are a couple of little fun adventures I recommend.

1. Shop Downtown

As a lover of fashion myself, there are so many cute boutiques and cool stores in downtown Athens to go to. A few of my personal favorites are Pitaya, Cheeky Peach, Fringe, and Archer Paper Goods.

2. Go to an event in the Georgia Theatre

Athens has always been big in the music scene, and the Georgia Theatre is a fantastic way to hear so many different types of music and performers. So if you're free on one of these nights, go give someone a listen.

3. Enjoy the food

While many students have the meal plan, I highly recommended trying some of the places to eat in Athens if you can! Some of my personal favorites are Mama's Boy (breakfast/lunch/brunch *pro tip: go to the Falls location it is usually less crowded/get there early), Ideal Bagel (breakfast/lunch/ brunch), Pauley's Crepe Bar (lunch/dinner), The Place (lunch/dinner), The Last Resort (dinner), Marker 7 (lunch/dinner), and The Grill (breakfast/lunch/dinner *Open 24/7).

4. Go to the Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are something I feel like a lot of students don't think about, but it is so pretty there! It is a great place for a run, to sit and study, take cute pictures, or really just to soak up some sun and clear your head.

5. Check out the Georgia Museum of Art

Even if you aren't an art lover, there are so many interesting exhibits to see and learn from. See what's on display here.

6. Go see the Iron Horse at sunrise or sunset

A landmark located right outside of Athens (totally worth the drive), is just a cool spot in the middle of a field to lay a blanket out with your friends and just spend some quality time together. Pro Tip: I went once when there was a meteor shower, 10/10 recommend. Located at 7861 Athens HWY Watkinsville, GA 30677

7. And of course, go watch Georgia play in Sanford Stadium

Athens literally shuts down on game days, so you might as well get dressed up, grab your friends, and get hype, because this is probably the number one thing you should while in Athens.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

From sea to shining sea, the United States was uniquely positioned for an incredible Aurora Borealis display on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, going into Friday, Oct. 11.

It was the second time this year after an historic geomagnetic storm in May 2024. Those Northern Lights were visible in Europe and North America, just like this latest rendition.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
