A mini insight into my Spotify discoveries

Exploratory Bops

I live off of Spotify. Whether I am listening to old songs and reminiscing on my childhood, or listening to the top hits, I am constantly using Spotify for music. One of my favorite uses of Spotify is creating different playlists for my variety of moods. One of my most diverse playlists is my 'Exploratory Bops' playlist. It consists of new (or old) songs from a plethora of artists.

Here are my top seven songs from my playlist! They definitely earned a spot on one of my other playlists.

1. What You Do To Me - John Legend

One of my most recent musical obsessions is John Legend. He always hooks me with his lyrics and the musicality in all of his songs is so incredibly beautiful.

2. Sit Still, Look Pretty - Daya (feat. R!OT)

I thought this was the most annoying song until one of my friends played this remix the other night. For some reason, I am oddly obsessed with this remix! It is such a fun party and workout song and the musicality in the remix is super dynamic.

3. How Far I'll Go; From 'Moana' - Alessia Cara

This song is my new jam with my best friend. Alessia has such a unique voice and the song just makes me feel really happy. Plus, it is from an adorable movie, so what's not to love?

4. Make Me (Cry) - Noah Cyrus, Labrinth

I did not know how I felt about this song when I first listened to it, but after a few listens, I fell in love with it. Noah has such a special voice and I think the song is great for being her first single. I have a feeling she will go far as a musician and I am thrilled to watch her journey.

5. Fake Love - Drake

If I'm being honest, I love listening to Drake because I love attempting to rap his songs. One of my best friends is amazing at rapping and Drake is one of her favorite artists. Her love for him has rubbed off on me, so I try to incorporate some of his songs into my playlists. Plus, his songs are great for parties!

6. All We Have Is Love - Sabrina Carpenter

Every time a new album comes out, I typically listen through and find a few of my favorite songs. I honestly do not understand how I skipped over this when listening to Sabrina's album, 'EVOLution.' I had the opportunity to see Sabrina in concert in early December and this was by far one of my favorite song that she performed. I absolutely love seeing artists perform songs live; it connects people to songs in such a unique and special way.

7. Rise Up - Andra Day

This song is on a commercial for a new TV show (I forgot the name of it), but as soon as I heard it, I was intrigued. I ended up googling some of the lyrics that I heard and easily found the song on Spotify. Andra's voice is so powerful and I love the message the song portrays.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
