The interesting part is that these guidelines aren't new.
So why are these guidelines becoming such a huge issue at this point?
This was a statement by a Youtube representative:
“While our policy of demonetizing videos due to advertiser-friendly concerns hasn’t changed, we’ve recently improved the notification and appeal process to ensure better communication to our creators.”
In short, it wasn't until recently that Content Creators were aware that some of their videos were being "de-monetized". When the notifications came in, they were under the impression that a mass amount of their videos lost ads in one fell swoop.
While the new notification system did initially receive backlash, it's definitely a positive change as it gives Creators an opportunity to have their reviews manually reviewed to get ads back on some of their videos. This is done by clicking on a yellow dollar sign and following on-screen instructions to submit for review.
Hopefully, Youtube will continue to make efforts to further the communication between its platform and its Creators in the near future. The last thing we need is a hostile community that won't cooperate with its platform.
