Expectations Vs. Reality – What A Girls Weekend Actually Looks Like

Planning a girls' weekend is tough when you have to deal with eight different schedules. These types of things have to be planned a year in advance to make sure no one has something going on that particular weekend. Once everything is finalized, the countdown begins, materials are ordered and the alcohol is bought.

When we talk to guys about eight girls going away, they have a wide range of answers going from one extreme to another. They believe that we go to hook up with guys and go wild or that we get in our PJs and watch movies all night. We laugh because little do they know what actually goes on during the weekend. Girls like to get away to hang out with friends; relax; forget about real life, like jobs and money. They go to catch up with old friends and just have a good time.

Expectations : Reality

We sit and braid each other's hair : We drink excessive amounts of alcohol

We have pillow fights, munch on popcorn and watch movies in our PJs : We are just as savage as the guys

We go to “hook-up” with every guy in the club : We dance with each other in a circle

Eat healthy meals : Shoving pizza, fries and chicken fingers in our mouths

Remembering the night before : Looking at Snapchat videos to relive the night before

Having a normal breakfast : Funneling beer at 8:30 in the morning

Having a girls' weekend is all about having fun. Staying up late, laughing hysterically at the stupidest things, dancing in the car, making friends with Uber drivers and dancing all night long with each other. The weekend usually goes by way too fast and, before you know it, it’s already Sunday. You squeeze one another tight in a hug you don’t want to let go of. Right away, the group chat starts up and it feels like the weekend never ended.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
