The Expectations and Realities of Winter

Winter is most definitely not the most wonderful time of the year.

The Expectations and Realities of Winter

Too many people have high expectations for “pretty snow” and amazing holidays, and although the holiday breaks are nice, winter never really lives up to anyone’s expectations. And, to tell you the truth, winter just sucks altogether. Here are some of the expectations people have for winter and the actual reality of their lives during this terribly cold season.

Expectation: Wow I can’t wait for it to snow! It’s going to look so pretty and fluffy.

Reality: Does white snow even exist or is it all just black and muddy?

Expectation: I am going to look so cute in my new winter coat and accessories. Honestly, I'll probably look like the new and improved Elsa

Reality: My winter jacket is so long and tight I feel like a penguin waddling to class. And now I have hat hair so I guess I’ll be wearing this hat all day...

Expectation: When you slip on ice and you think you pulled it off...

Reality: ...but you actually looked like the most uncoordinated person in the world.

Expectation: I’m going to work out every day and get in shape for the summer!

Reality: Just one more episode and maybe I'll do a jumping jack. Or maybe not.

Expectation: I’m going to go to every 8am this semester!

Reality: If it is under 50 degrees, I am not leaving this warm and cozy bed.

Expectation: It’s cuffing season, so I’m going to go out and find me a cuddle buddy!

Reality: I don’t need a man to make me happy… I’ll just drink my hot chocolate and watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S in peace.

Expectation: I’m going to dress so cute in all my new oversize sweaters and leggings I got for Christmas/Chanukah.

Reality: But actually…. I’m just going to roll out of bed in whatever oversize shirt I’m wearing, throw on some leggings and call it a day.

Expectation: *when going out at night* It’s only a ten minute walk, I’ll be fine without a jacket!

Reality: Wow, I actually hate myself, I most definitely have frostbite now. Never. Again.

Expectation: I’m looking so pale… maybe a little self tanner will do the trick while still looking natural.

Reality: Nope, this never works in my favor.

Expectation: I love winter because SNOW DAYS!!!

Reality: My school wouldn’t close even if there was a tornado, blizzard, hurricane and a zombie apocalypse happening all at once…

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
