What To Expect When You're Expecting (Finals)
kjaydebo.wordpress.com

It's that time of the semester again: finals. Break out the coffee. Break out the tissues. Break out your favorite comfort foods. And most importantly, hit the books!

Finals are without a doubt one of the most stressful and least enjoyable times for a college student. You have to cram all of the information you learned that semester for all of your classes in such a small amount of time and obviously, there are so many other things you would rather be doing. You want to spend the remaining weeks of the semester doing fun things with your friends, not locking yourself in the library's four walls for hours on end. But pull it together and get through it. Write that paper. Finish that proposal. Rock your exam. Only two weeks until summer. You can do it!

Prepare for some tears, some emotional breakdowns, and the occasional "my life is ending" spiel that you might undergo or experience from one of your friends. We've all been there. You at one point felt like the walls were closing in on you because of being so overwhelmed. But you got through it. Tell yourself "it will get done because it always does." It's the truth. Make it an all-nighter, start in advance, manage your time. Find what works for you and get on it. The faster you get it done, the closer you are to freedom. Freedom. What a sweet word and what a great feeling. Two weeks. Two more weeks to freedom.

Who cares if you gain some weight? You're working hard and finishing off the semester. You have the whole summer to set goals, lose weight and make any adjustments you want to...and the best part about it... no school to make you stress eat. Get the bagel. Eat the chocolate. Have eight cups of coffee. Do whatever you have to do to get through the week and make the best of your semester.

"It is what it is, but it will be what you make it." Don't dwell. Do the best you can in each one of your classes. Work hard and kick butt on your exams and final projects. But it is not the end of the world if you do not do as well as you wished or what was you were expecting. It is not life or death. Will you remember the grade you got on your Calculus exam five years from now when you are working successfully somewhere? No. Do the best you can and enjoy your life as a college student. It is only four years. Work hard. Study hard. But do not forget your sanity is important, too. You need to remember to make college fun; it is four years you can never get back. For now, study!! (Then party after.)

Happy finals, you're going to kill it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
