Only have 20 minutes in your day for the gym? That’s okay… use it!
I always thought that in order to get results and make my gym time worth while I needed to be there, working hard for at least an hour to an hour and a half.
But studies show that even exercising for 20 minutes improves your brain stimulation. Aerobic exercise improves your molecular and behavior levels in your brain as well as information processing and memory functions.
In simple terms, don’t go to the gym just to obsess over the amount of calories you burn. Go for a run, walk, jog, or sprint in order to benefit all parts of your body. Exercise helps to create a nourished environment for your brain, keeping you healthier and happier.
Mental and physical exercise go hand in hand. It’s easy to think of ways to exercise your body but difficult at times to exercise your brain. Of course you can do things like read, complete crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc. but why not do something that is multi beneficial in a shorter period of time?
Studies have also shown that aerobic exercise can act as a “first aid kit” to damaged brain cells. Contrary to what we are told growing up, those brain cells that we have damaged CAN be fixed. So fix them!
This is especially important for me; I am a student who is often exhausted and I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. To know that I can exercise for just 20-30 minutes and still be benefitting my body and mind without even realizing it is such an important tip. I can reboot my energy in the middle of a long day, making my brainpower last longer.
There is a direct correlation between making steps in the right direction physically as well as mentally. If you are happier you will feel better about yourself, which will help you make healthier lifestyle choices, and more positive decisions for yourself.
So if you don’t already take advantage of this crucial life hack, get out there and do it!
