At Arizona Global Dance Festival on Saturday, September 23rd I ran into one of my music idols and probably one of my favorite artists right now, Yultron. I have seen him twice now, once at the Monarch Theater when he opened up for Paty Thieves and one at the Rialto Theater in Tucson. While he wasn't performing the night of Global he did just release Stronger on Flosstradamus's record label who was performing that night. He was gracious enough to set aside some time for a quick interview to talk about his recent music and life in general.
I met up with Yultron backstage and he was hanging around getting some video footage content for future use. The night before he played with Yellow Claw at the Bill Graham in San Francisco California. Yultron got his start for making purely from the fact that he just loved music, and while his family wasn't too keen on the idea he talked about how they came around, "They aren't as worried now because I can make a living and not worry about it." When talking about his new music and style I made the comment about how Yultron was starting to become a big name and he humbly told me,"No I'm not big yet" and this reaction made me appreciate the fact that he recognizes that he is still learning and growing. "I like to make lots of different styles from bass house to dubstep to trap, really I just want to make dance music, music that people can dance to."
What most people don't know is that Yultron was actually a rapper before he stepped into the production side of music, and what fueled his passion to make electronic music was the fact that he too is a raver. "I know what it feels like to be inspired by music and I wanted to help people express their feelings." He made it very clear that he wasn't looking to make one type of music and it sure as hell wasn't for him to enjoy alone because in his words," making music for me is selfish, I want people to connect with what I'm making." Yultron has started to see rapid success this year with a highly popular Whistle Wars Remix and Stronger, both of which he sings on. Whistle Wars is a heavy amazing tune that is carried by a unique melody and Yultron noted, "I loved the melody so I just sat down and wrote on it and sure enough it came out great." While he can't say too much,, Yultron does have a new release coming out on INsomniac Records in a couple weeks that I heavily look forward to.
More often than not we see musicians, artists and producers get full of themselves and let the success carry them to an arrogant status, but it is amazing to see how one man can truly care about the people in this scene we often call home. Yultron had a fan that was killed by a drunk driver when leaving one of his shows and we talked briefly about how hard it was to hear that news. Above all else, there is one thing that he said that reassures himself as someone I respect and admire not just as a musician, but as a person.
" I'm just trying to do better. I never was a shitty person but for once in my life, people give a shit about me and I want all my fans to know how much they mean to me."
I would highly recommend going to one of his shows as they are an amazing blend of heavy melodies, deep beats, and high energy. Be sure to check him out on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Soundcloud for all the updates.
