How did you get your start with being known for dancing?
I started dancing for Desiigner first and it was so weird because it was when his song Panda first came out and it was at 1,000 views and I made a little dance snippet to it and his best friend hit me up on Instagram and was like "Hey, come to the strip club," and I was like "why" because it was so ironic and weird for someone to randomly invite me to the strip club. But he told me to come because I'll meet Desiigner there and that they'll put me in a cab so I can go. So we were at the strip club, I forget which one, but Desiigner was there and I was in his section with everybody, mind you I was like 19 or 20 at the time and he goes on stage to start performing and his best friend pulls me to go on stage but I was hesitant because I didn't have permission from Desiigner to be on stage with him.
So at this point, I'm looking at the security guard and the security guard is looking at me like, what you ‘bout to do. But either way I went on stage and started dancing and I killed it and Desiigner loved me, he was like, "Yo come to every one of my shows", and that's honestly where it all started. I started doing shows every single night with him for about three months as a backup dancer. Although it was something temporary it messed me up in school because I was out every night while trying to keep up with classes so I had to fall back to pick my grades back up. From there on I've been doing a whole bunch of music videos after that with different artist such as, Phresher, Remy Ma, David Correy, Maino and ASAP Ferg.
What's some of the best advice that you've got for your music and dance career?
The best advice that I received was from Maino, he met me for the first time in the studio and he sat me down and he told me that something is really different about me and he can tell that I’m genuinely here to work and do what you have to do. There's so many girls in the industry that are selling their souls to the industry and they aren't getting anywhere and they don't get respected. He told me my route to success will take longer but as long as I keep pushing I'm going to be great in life, just keep to myself, stay humble and I'll flourish.
If you had to choose between dancing or rapping for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
To be honest, I started doing music three months ago and it was so amazing how fast I picked up on music but my first love is definitely dance, but developing myself as an artist, seeing how good I am and getting such great responses from people is so addicting as well. It's the same kind of feeling when you have a good performance or sing a great song and everyone is just cheering you on so it's really hard to choose between the two because I love both. But I'm going to go with dancing if I really had to choose.
Who was the first celebrity that you've met and how did you react?
Future was the first celebrity that I met and it's weird because I'm never really excited to meet celebrities because they're just like regular people to me so I was just like, "Well hey," and he invited me into his section so I went and and one of the first things he said to me was, "You look just like my baby mama!".
Where did the inspiration of your hit single "IDK" come from?
I was in the studio for the first time with Black the Beast who produced the track and he played the hook of the song and I'm just like this hook is fire and I told him to give me a shot so I tried it and I laid my flows down and it just came out so dope and so organically. Everyone was so surprised because it was the first time I had ever recorded anything.
Do you ever get nervous before a performance?
My heart drops to my butt every time, the nerves be real! I'm so used to dancing behind the artist that I had to get used to being the center-of-attention on stage. When I get too nervous I just give my manager the mic and start dancing, the last time I did that my manager was like "you can't be doing that," but I'm learning as I go.
How often do people tell you that you're Ciara's look-alike?
It's crazy because the first person that told me that was Future. My page never went viral until recently and within about 200+ comments so many people were saying I look Ciara, and I'm sitting here like okay but I'm not. I love her because she the goat but now I'm going viral because I'm a look-alike so it's hard because now I'm getting noticed for something else that has nothing to do with my brand.
When did you realized that you were on the verge of becoming famous?
I was on the train one day and my hair was looking crazy, I was heading to school so I didn't put makeup on or anything like that because it's school it's not a fashion show. I was about to hop on the train and like five little girls came up to me and was like, "Jennaske that's how you looking out here?". I ran so fast onto the train after that. There were many other times when people would recognize me on the street and that's when I realized that my name was getting more out there.
What is some advice that you can give to current and future performers?
I would say remain humble because you never know what tomorrow holds and every performance you have make it better than your last and just keep striving for greatness and progression.
