Being An Adult May Not Always Be Easy, But I'm Excited To Turn 18 For These 6 Reasons

My 18th birthday is a few months away, and I have some expectations for when I am officially a legal adult.

Becoming an adult comes with some responsibilities and I get that. People have always told me to enjoy my teen years, and I have. But I'm still eager for this milestone in my life, and these are some reasons why.

1. Frequently thinking "decisions, decisions..."

This is when I start deciding where I want to go to college, what I want to do as a career (journalism/columnist) and what path I ultimately want to travel down.

2. Hearing my parents say "That's my baby!"

This is when my parents get to show off my accomplishments as I graduate high school. I can't wait to make them proud of how well they have raised me.

3. Flying from the nest

This is when I get to fly from the nest and see where the wind takes me. I get to become my own person, with different interests and the freedom to express them. I get to become an individual in the eyes of the world.

Age will not hold me back anymore.

5. Mastering the art of adulting

I will start learning my own lessons about responsibilities and life as they come at me. Hopefully, I can handle it with grace.

Life is hard, even as an adolescent! But adulting seems a little bit harder. You have to learn as you go and continue growing as a person.

5. Learning and growing

Life is always going to teach us something. Keeping an open mind and open eyes make the lessons easier to see.

We have the lessons our parents taught us as guidelines for life. But when you become an adult, you are expected to know the basics and learn the rest as life goes on.

6. Embracing my inner "Girl Meets World"

This 18-year-old girl is ready to take on the world headfirst! I am ready to learn new lessons, and I'm ready to leave my mark on this world.

This is when girl meets world.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
