It's April. That means baseball. Although I am a Yankee fan in Boston, there's no month better than April.
Baseball is one of America's great past times; an aspect of culture that has been around since the 1890s. Baseball stadiums are a place where friends and family can get together and really enjoy themselves. Die-hard fan or just here for the cute stadium pics (yes I'm talking to you, selfie girl (below)) baseball is the one sport everyone can really join in on.
You don't need to watch from the beginning to enjoy it. Hell, I've spent a good amount of seasons joining in June when all my finals are over. Anytime is a good time to start. It is ready for you when you are.
There's something in the air when everyone is in the stadium and watching from TVs in local bars, on old couches or in college dorm rooms, and the count is 3-2, bottom on the ninth, bases loaded, and your team is down by 3. It is silent enough to hear a pin drop across a stadium that is big enough to hold 50,000 people. And once A-Rod, Todd Frazier, Bryce Harper, or Mike Trout hits a grand slam to win the game, there is no feeling like the one you get in the pit of your stomach as you scream and jump into the air.
There's something magical about eating those cracker jacks and shoving your faces with hot dogs when you go to the stadium with your dad as a kid, with high hopes that you will catch a ball. There is no other sport that let's you in on all the fun like that.
As you get older, your love never ceases. Sure, you may take a season off because the stress of school or work is getting to you, but your favorite team will always hold a place in your heart. Every Mets fan, old or young, had that feeling after the 15 year drought before winning the pennant last October. Once a fan, always a fan.
When your favorite player is out with an injury, you go to school or work depressed for the next week. When he finally breaks out of his slump, the grin on your face won't leave until the game is over. When you wear your favorite player's jersey number loud and proud on Halloween, you can't wait for April to come. April is here.
And when October finally comes around, you can't believe it's over.
