October has started and I am so excited for all the fall things to begin and especially, HALLOWEEN! Halloween is my favorite holiday and I am going to tell you all the reasons why.
1.) Candy
Even in college Halloween means people will start handing out candy. I thought trick or treating stopped when one became an adult, BUT boy was I wrong. Even here at Stockton I walk around and tables hand out candy. Back at home no one tells you you can't have any candy if you dress up and simply knock on the door.
2.) It's Finally Fall Weather
The leaves will begin to change the weather should no longer be disgustingly hot, but hey anything can happen.... and this new change in weather means that your candy will no longer melt.
3.) Fall Weather means fall clothing
People can once again begin wearing sweaters, jeans, Uggs, cardigans, and my personal favorite... FLANNELS. Also, most of this clothing is a bit baggier so therefore when you enjoy your candy no one will notice if you gain weight or hide candy on your person.
4.) Halloween Movies!
I am a huge fan of all kinds of "Halloween" movies. Scary movies, classic childhood Halloween themed movies. I strive to watch every different variation of Halloween Town, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and so many others. Also, while sitting down to watch the movie I can munch on candy corn, and other festive candies.
5.) Costumes
Even as adults we can dress up, but sometimes seeing pets and children dressed up for Halloween brings joy to the whole world... or terror depending on the costume. You get to see all the weird costumes, original homemade ones, cute costumes, and spooky/gory costumes. One of my favorite activities during Halloween is counting how many repeat costumes that I see, for example, I think I saw about 30 Elsa's last year. These costumes are the main way that you get to obtain the candy.
6.) Decorations
Halloween allows for people to show their spooky side. People decorate their houses as graveyards, and scary castles, alien invasion site, and many other spooky things. I love driving around and seeing all the creative ways that people conjure up in order to make their yard and houses scary. The best scary houses use the classic trick of either dressing up as a decoration and sitting with the candy bowl in your lap and scaring those who come up, or buying a door mat or bowl that makes noises to scare those taking delicious treats.
7.) Events and Activities
Obviously, the first major event that occurs is on Halloween itself, Trick or Treating. This event is the major thing that everyone thinks of during this holiday, but there is so much more. Haunted Houses are also a huge hit during this time of year. Paying to go get scared is just such a fun activity that people can do and it is extremely popular. My last thought is of course pumpkin or apple picking, because these are in season and it's just so much fun. Of course though, Trick or Treating is the most important so you can get the candy.
8.) Food and Drink
This is the season of Pumpkin Spice! Starbucks goers all over the world will order Pumpkin Spice Lattes and cookies and muffins and everything. Some other popular foods and drinks during this time of year are hot apple cider, pumpkin pies, caramel apples, and other rustic/harvest foods. Oh... and I almost forgot... CANDY!
OK, all joking aside, candy is great, but the Halloween Season is one of the best seasons. This season emphasizes fun, good humor, and community. I absolutely love Halloween and above are all the reasons you should love it, too! I hope you enjoyed, now go share the Joy of Halloween with others, and get some candy!
