Time and time again, I and many others complain about the lack of parking at Union College. While I love the school with all my heart, I cannot get over how little parking there is on campus. I have felt this way even as a freshman when I could not have a car on campus, but I was still able to recognize the minimal parking availability. However, recently I have come to my wit's end about parking at Union because in front of reamer (which can be argued as the student hotspot on campus, so naturally most of the student body hangs around there) I noticed that there are FIVE parking spots for electric cars on campus right next to Reamer! In the grand scheme of everything, this seems like a major environmental and sustainable movement Union is now pursuing...but why are there more electronic car parking spots than there are normal parking spots right in front of Reamer.
I am an Environmental Science minor myself so I can appreciate the steps Union is taking to become environmentally friendly since it seems to be something that is downplayed in society today. Nonetheless, there are probably only a handful of students who have electronic cars on campus. I would appreciate and understand the idea more if there were one or two spots on campus dedicated to people with electronic cars - since I am sure they are frustrated with how there are never places or spots to charge their cars - but I still do not understand why there are five parking spots only for electronic cars.
There are only four parking spots for normal gasoline fueled cars in front of Reamer, so I come back to the same question...why are there more electronic car spots for people in front of the student center than there are normal parking spots. I know it is not just me asking this question because I have discussed this with many people. Perhaps it is Union's way to promote and encourage students to buy and use electronic cars but the reality of the fact is, is that this country predominately drives gasoline fueled cars and it simply is excessive to have five parking spots dedicated to students with electronic cars.
