Why am I so into you?

Chemistry. Connection. Spark. Whatever you call that feeling when you look into someone else’ eyes and your heart starts to beat out of your chest. Sometimes you are instantly attracted to someone and you can’t even explain why. Whether it’s their devilish looks, sexy flowing hair, smile that makes you blush or a combination of their entire vibe, you find them constantly catching your eye from across the room. And lucky for you, you seem to be their distraction in the middle of a huge crowd as well.

Didn’t Gatsby once say, “I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn't privacy.” I find this quote so relatable when I keep playing eye hockey with that hot frat boy across the room. Taken out of context, in the real world, maybe he wouldn't be worth gushing over after a little liquid courage had done its magic in my system. But that’s the secret. It’s all about timing. And summer sure gives us some good timing this time of year for sparks to fly.

Every girl wants to be looked at the way Jay Gatsby looked at Daisy but who you are attracted to often varies in every situation. While on summer vacation, everyone is looking for their summer fling. No feelings, well maybe some, just a cute new sidekick to spend weekends at the beach — knowing that this feeling will only last temporarily as red leaves begin to fall and reality hits that forever isn’t actually practical.

As seasons continue to fade into one another, every winter brings along “cuff season.” Cuff season, usually taking place in the second semester of the year, brings along chilly winter nights begging for a companionship. Most of the relationships that I know that have developed in college began in the cold stormy nights which then turned into spring dates and full out summer romances. After all, who doesn’t like being the little spoon (or even the big spoon)?

Attraction is vital to every relationship. But people often mistake lust for attraction. Personally, one of the most attractive things I find in a guy is his relationship with his family. Family is so important to me, and no one in my house ever settles for less than they deserve, emphasizing the significance of love in all types of relationships. Whether you’re with your soulmate, summer fling, cute college frat star, high school quarterback or just someone who makes constantly makes you laugh — you’re attracted to them for the happiness they bring into your world.

You might be attracted to the way they walk or how ambitious they are by landing their first Wall Street internship in NYC. How sexy they look with their hair pushed back or even how sexy they make you feel. How gentle they are when it comes to their hugging mom, the way they make everyone else light up when they walk in the room, the way they hold a cold beer just right and even the way they hold you; just like you were fit for their strong arms.

There is no better feeling than looking up across the room and catching that special someone else looking right back at you. We can’t always explain why we are so into people, perhaps they give us something that we feel like we are missing or they complete us; the better half we didn’t even realize that we were missing until they came along. These extraordinary people make us want to be better than we were before and give us butterflies in our stomach we never really believed in until we met them.

Attraction is special because it is so rare. Don’t get me wrong, I am attracted to millions of people. It could be the way they laugh, smile and or make me feel so special that draws me into their essence -- always wanting to be around them. But I find it much more rare to be attracted to someone beyond their looks — beyond the person they display to the whole world. The deepest form of love and affection is buried deep inside someone and only when they reveal those hidden feelings to you, does their attraction become so much more real. Looks aren’t everything, in fact, looks are not as important as everyone thinks when they emphasize the word attraction. You do not have to date the hottest guy in the world to be the happiest girl because what really matters is inside of them and how special they make you feel.

Sometimes if you’re extra lucky, then you meet a guy who is as beautiful on the outside as he is in on the inside! But I can guarantee you that whoever steals your heart forever will be the most attractive person you’ve ever laid eyes on.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
